The TikTok microphone has gone quiet for “Brotherman” after authorities caught up with the 44-year-old Zambian national at Kasumbalesa.
The Department of Immigration says Misheck Mulubwa, who uses the TikTok name “Brotherman” under the handle @KabongoKitungu5, was apprehended on Saturday around 15:30 hours in a joint operation involving Defence and Security Wings.
And according to Immigration, this was not simply another social media shouting match.
Authorities accuse Mulubwa of repeatedly posting content almost inspired by "Why Me", containing insults against President Hakainde Hichilema and the Presidency, as well as tribal and hate speech.
The Department says preliminary investigations also indicate that Mulubwa had allegedly been staying on the Democratic Republic of Congo side of the border and only crossing into Zambia from time to time.
That part, however, is still under investigation. After his arrest in Kasumbalesa, Mulubwa was transported to Lusaka, where Immigration says he is expected to be formally charged.
JUST TO UNLOCK YOUR MIND:
This is where TikTok can stop being just TikTok.
You can insult people online and think the phone screen is a wall between you and the law. It is not.
Authorities are now saying they have traced “Brotherman” to the border and physically apprehended him. Whatever happens next will depend on the evidence gathered and the charges eventually brought before court.
For now, the important word is alleged.
The Department says investigations are still continuing, meaning the TikTok videos may now become evidence rather than just content for people to watch, laugh at and scroll past.
